Last night, Matt and Max attended the Nashville Grammy Nominee Reception, which honored this year’s Grammy nominees from the Nashville chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. The Grammy Awards will occur on Sunday, February 8th – Superchick is nominated for “Best Rock/Rap Gospel Album” for Rock What You Got, so stay tuned to see if Superchick wins their first-ever Grammy!

Hello everyone!

So for the past year or so, I’ve been working on writing my first book. It’s been one of my dreams to write – I love it – and when the thought of writing about this particular song of ours came to me… well, it just stuck.

I wrote the song ‘Beauty From Pain’ with Max on our last record. It was about the heartache I was going through after my first love left me alone, heartbroken and, for the first time in my life, realizing my brokenness and humility could become a beautiful place for God to speak to me and be my everything. So that’s what the song is: my story of that place… of the lowest emotional place you can think of, when life feels like it falls out from under your feet and it’s the scarriest, darkest place you’ve ever visited.

Since the song came out, I’ve met so many people, night after night, who connected with my story in their own place of brokenness. For most of the stories I’ve heard, it hasn’t been brokenness or hurt from breakups like mine was; for some it was demons from the past, deaths of loved ones, broken marriages, abuse growing up by the very people we are meant to rely on for our protection… the stories are amazing. We are all so broken and not one of us put back together perfectly. The pieces that are left after a tragedy need true healing and I’ve found only God is that Healer we need.

My book is first my story… but what I want this book to be is a book of stories, of people who found hope, who found the end of the tunnel, who found God through their pain, through their storms and their mistakes. And that’s where you can come in.

Your story doesn’t have to involve our song… it can just be your story if you feel like it fits this idea of showing God’s grace and faithfulness in the midst of us feeling like life has fallen apart around us. Tell your friends if you know of a beautiful story. If you do have a connection or know someone who does from this particular song of ours, that would obviously be amazing to hear.
