Biography
It started in Toronto, Canada, home of the Maple Leafs. Hockey cards, marbles and recess were pretty much the center of my entire Canadian childhood career. Besides cutting the grass and pulling weeds out of the garden, the only other responsibility I had was practicing the piano every day during half of my lunch break from Folkstone Elementary. Hardly a day went by that I missed my two favorite TV shows: The Flintstones and The Muppet Show. What ever happened to great television? By the time I was 10, my family moved to Ohio where I had one of the greatest revelations of my life: After seeing the matinee viewing of Back to the Future on opening day-- I realized that playing guitar was my destiny--it really wasn't even a choice. In less than a week I begged my dad and talked him into buying me a used, no-name stratocaster and desperately tried to learn the song Johnny B Goode. By the end of junior high and through high school, my weekends consisted of putting together garage bands and jam sessions with friends in our basements, playing guitars and drums at deafening levels (not recommended). It was glorious! In the summers we did this almost every day, interrupted only by bmx rides to the music store where I would often buy a new guitar pick-- or even two!
By college, I decided to take things a little more "seriously" and picked Pharmacy as my major at the Ohio State University. I'm still not sure what they were talking about in those chemistry classes but I actually made it through the program with an official degree and license! In the mean time I managed to play guitar 2 or 3 times a week, helping lead worship for campus groups like Campus Crusade for Christ. While I was playing at a New Year's conference with Campus Crusade in Indianapolis, I met Max who at the time was in a band called Church of Rhythm. Within, a couple months I went straight from my college graduation ceremony with the cap and gown, into a van and trailer, joining the band as their new guitarist and moving to Chicago. Within about 2 years, Max and I remained the last standing members of the band and refocused our energy into creating a new girl fronted band that would change the face of chick rock forever. Looking back, it is crazy to see how all the unrelated pieces of my life have fit together like a puzzle to bring me to what I am doing now. It is evidence to me that God has a purpose for everyone and for all the random things that happen in life. Our job is to take what we have been given and the things we are naturally passionate about and use them to fulfill that purpose. I can't be more thankful for the opportunities I have. There are a couple more paragraphs to this mini bio that I'm still working on writing -- check back with me in a few years. Until then, let there be Rock and Roll.
