On Living In Gratitude
Why is it so hard for us to be grateful for what we have? I have air conditioning – right now it’s 96 degrees outside. Do I thank the air conditioner every day?: “Thank you, Air Conditioner, for making my life so cool.” Instead I just take it for granted that the air conditioner is doing the job it was born to do.
I grew up in a tropical climate and we had one air conditioner in my parents’ bedroom. Our whole family slept in their room at night and the air conditioner was only turned on at night in order to save money.
We can always find things to be sad about, and we can always find things to be happy about. I think that’s why helping with the homeless is so good for perspective; you really come home grateful for things like air conditioning… and well… having a home to come home to.

I love this stuff about optimism and the like – pessimism is like a disease, and I think it might be responsible for more death than car crashes.
I’ve been following Superchick for a while and for such a great band I’m surprised you don’t have a hughe following or massive amounts of comments on everything. It’s hard to find a truly God-driven group but you seem to be one. So thanks for living for God. : )

First off, you guys are awsome. I wanted to say that as a 15 yr old I take alot for granted in life. Lately though, things have become better and Ive learned that once you take to much for granted, everything starts falling apart. Remember to thank our Maker for life cuz he could take everything away in a heartbeat

Max, you’re awesome! I graduated from Judson (College) Univ. 2 yrs before Jason Gregory & loved your lyrics since Church of Rhythm, but today’s my first visit to the Superchick site.
Whenever I stray from being grateful, I consider where I was in life the year before, and always realize that I’m always better off today. Even if I’m going through rough times, I know other people deal with worse struggles every day, and God carries us through every rough spot eventually. And as I continue to rely on God, I realize that I’ve grown spiritually & emotionally in the previous year, and can trust God a lot more to handle things.
Also, I just noticed how chilly it’s feeling in here and I turned my A/C down!
Thanks for all you guys do!

It’s so true, we all take things for granted, every day. I’m learning to be grateful for the things I have, and not be jealous for the things that I don’t have. It’s awesome to be an American!
